Scottsdale, AZ - The Barrett Jackson Auto Auction. The unthinkable has happened. The first 2020 Toyota Supra, vin 20201, sold at auction for over $2 million. I'll repeat that. TWO MILLION DOLLARS. That is absolutely insane.
Luckily, this hefty price was for a good cause. Toyota donated this $2.1 million to the American Heart Association and Stand Up For Heroes Foundation.
However, this makes me think. What kind of "market adjustment fees" will Toyota dealerships across the world be adding on to their showroom Supras? These fees are not uncommon to see to cars like these. Dodge has done it with the Hellcat, BMW did it to their i8, and the list goes on.
There was also a 2019 Ford GT Heritage Edition that sold for $2.5 million, with the full amount being donated to United Way, and the first 2020 GT500 sold for $1.1 million to benefit Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
I'm happy to see that these sky-high winning bids are all going to a good cause.
